There was a thief in Arabia. He used to steal at night. The prophet (sm) heard of him. One day he told the thief not to steal. At this the thief said, “Please ask me to do any other thing, I will obey you. But please don’t ask me to give up stealing.”
The prophet (sm) said, “Well, do not tell a lie from today.” The thief agreed. He became glad and went away. At night, the thief went out to teal. On the way he met a man. they asked him, “Where are you going now?” The thief thought of his word to the Prophet (sm). He could not tell a lie. So, he returned home.
Next night the thief again went out to steal. That night he met another man. He also asked him the same question. This time the thief could not tell a lie. He could not steal that night, too. So, he came back home, this happened every night, the thief went out to steal but could not steal.
In this way, his mind was gradually changed. At last he gave up stealing and became a good man.
